Due to the pandemic of COVID-19, the FSSAI has Sustained the time limit for the application for the renewal of the FSSAI License. The FSSAI has given relaxation to all those FBOs (Food Business Operators) who are unable to apply for the FSSAI Food License Renewal due to the lockdown enforced due to COVID-19.
FSSAI Food License Renewal Types
The FSSAI Food License Renewal system is segregated into different categories according to different forms of FSSAI Licensing.
Basic FSSAI Food License Renewal
The basic FSSAI Food License Renewal is appropriate and applicable for all those Food Business Operators who fall under the basic registration criteria, i.e. businesses below 12 lakh turnover. The renewal fees may vary depending upon the number of years your business has been operating (Rs.100-500 approx).
State FSSAI Food License Renewal
The state FSSAI Food License Renewal is appropriate for businesses that fall under the state licensing criteria (b/w 12 lakh to 20 crore turnover). The renewal fees, i.e. Rs 2000-5000 per yr, depend upon 2 factors which are:
Food Business Type (restaurant or producer)
Validity of the License Renewal (b/w 1 to 5 yrs)
Central FSSAI Food License Renewal
The Central FSSAI Food License Renewal is appropriate for businesses that fall under the central licensing criteria, and the renewal fee is Rs. 7500 per yr.
Procedure for an Expired FSSAI Food License Renewal
The procedure applicable for the renewal of the FSSAI License is not very difficult and can be carried out in 2 different ways:
Offline Procedure:
Considering the eligibility of the Food Business Operators (FBOs), two forms need to be filled out for the application of the FSSAI Food License Renewal. Those forms are Form A and Form B, which comprises the regulatory business activities of the FBOs.These forms are attached with the self-attested declaration and should be in compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
After the forms are stacked up, then they are sent for verification. The verification is carried out to verify whether the details are correct, genuine and in the knowledge of the applicant.
Inspection of the premises of the restaurant may also be executed if required in the domain of verification.
Based on the result of the verification, the renewed FSSAI food license will be issued to the applicant. This is a complete process of 60 days, and the food license will be provided to the applicant in the span of 60 days.
If your food business license is on the verge of expiry, then it is preferable to apply for the renewal of the license under 30 days before its expiry. But if your food license has expired already, then you need to submit your present license number, which was granted by the responsible authorities. Once we receive your food business license number, then we will fill the Form A and Form B.

The online procedure for applying for FSSAI Food License Renewal is easy, convenient and comfortable for people who feel lazy visiting the office and physically filling up the required forms.
You need to follow certain steps for the online application for the Fssai Food License Renewal:
Visit the official website of the Fssai, i.e. http://foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in
Login to the website with the use of the same Username and Password which you received at the time of initial filling of the application form.
Choose the “Apply for Renewal for License/Registration” tab.
Consequently, a list will appear on the screen. Do select the option suitable for you and click “Proceed”.
There will be a pop-up box appearing on the screen with the message “Are you sure you want to apply for the renewal of the license”. Click “OK”.
Upload the required documents for the renewal process on the portal.
After uploading the documents, review those documents in terms of their clarity, then click the “Submit” button.
You will get a reference number which is to be used for further inquiries regarding this application.
Documents Required for FSSAI Food License Renewal
To register the application for FSSAI Food License Renewal, you ought to have certain documents ready with you, which are as follows:
Basic FSSAI Food License Renewal
Government authorized Valid Identity proof of the applicant (Voter ID Card, Aadhar card or Driving License)
2 recent passport-size photographs of the applicant
Government-authorized Valid Address proof (recent electricity bill, Mobile Bill or Gas Bill)
If the business property is owned by the applicant, then the original property papers and a copy of them are essential during the procedure for renewal.
If the business property is on rent by the applicant, then it is necessary to provide the Rent Agreement and the No Objection Certificate from the landlord.
State/Central FSSAI Food License Renewal
List of Proprietor, Partner(s), Director(s), Members, and Authorized Signatory with their respective Valid Identity and Address proofs.
Latest passport-size photographs of the Proprietor, Partner(s), Director(s), Members, and Authorized signatory.
Property Papers (original and a photocopy) if the applicant is the owner of the said property.
Original and photocopies of the Rent Agreement and No Objection Certificate from the landlord if the said property is on rent by the applicant.
Layout plan of the Food Processing Unit and the food category list.
A cancelled cheque.
NOC from the manufacturer or the municipality, or the local body, in case the property is controlled by the distributor.
Partnership Deed, a copy of Memorandum of Agreement or Association of Agreement, in case of Co-operative society.
Supplementary Documents Which are Required for Central Food License Renewal apart from the Above Mentioned
Proof of turnover
Import Export Code (IEC) issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)
Ministry of Commerce issued Certificate for 100% EOU (Export Oriented Units)
Analysis report of the water which will be utilized during the food preparation
Consequences for not Getting the FSSAI Food License Renewal Done
If the Food Business Operator is not sincere in his FSSAI Food License Renewal or even refuses to apply for the FSSAI Food License, then a fine of Rs.100/- will be enforced with each day's delay. If the FSSAI FoodLicense is not renewed within the stipulated time, then the license is termed as expired, and the FBO has to appeal to obtain the new one.
Hence, it is advisable to hold the FSSAI License for smooth and proper functioning and the continual flow of the business.
